BROADCAST DATE: SATURDAY OCTOBER 3rd MIDNIGHT

911 Media Arts Center and KCTS Channel 9 jointly present New Voices: Seven Works by Emerging Documentary Filmmakers, to be aired on Saturday, October 3rd at midnight. This one hour program is the culmination of six months of collaborative effort between seven Northwest documentary filmmakers and staff members at 911 and KCTS / Channel 9.

New Voices began as a master class offered to a carefully selected group of candidates to impart the knowledge needed to produce, pitch and market documentary projects to KCTS, PBS and other broadcasters. This unique program offered a rare opportunity for amateur documentary filmmakers to work in a critical environment with professional producers at 911 and KCTS. Participants also gained access to high quality media making facilities at 911.

The partnership between a local media arts center and a nationally recognized PBS broadcast affiliate defines an exciting new mutually beneficial working model. Media centers such as 911 can function as the conduit for undiscovered artist talent to enrich regional programming on public broadcast.

"Working with 911 helped us to reach out to a new community of producers"
-Katie Jennings, Senior Producer, KCTS / Channel 9

"Through the New Voices project we were able to provide students with the resources they needed to allow their talent to flourish."
Cheryl Waters, Education Director, 911 Media Arts Center

New Voices consists of seven short documentaries exploring uncommon subjects, recounting rarely-heard stories and approaching sensitive issues. Between shorts, the students describe their effort to produce quality work for broadcast.

A preview for the press will be offered September 11th at 4:00 pm at 911 Media Arts Center - 117 Yale Ave N. Seattle WA.
